Turnul Sfatului Sibiu

Context

Turnul Sfatului is one of the most important symbols of Sibiu and one of the city’s most visited tourist attractions. In the context of the building’s restoration process, the project set out to look at the monument beyond its historical and tourist role.

The objective was to develop a strategy that would redefine the role of Turnul Sfatului in the life of the city and turn it into an active cultural landmark, connected to the community and to new generations of visitors.

The challenge

How do you bring a symbol with a history of several hundred years back into the present?

How do you transform a historic monument from a place that is merely visited into a space that generates experiences, culture and belonging?

The approach

The strategy aimed to reposition Turnul Sfatului as a cultural and urban landmark, through an approach that blends heritage with contemporary experiences. The lines of work included:

• audit and perception analysis;
• analysis of best practices at European level;
• positioning the attraction within the tourist and cultural context of the city;
• developing the marketing and communication strategy;
• directions for activating the space through events and cultural initiatives;
• recommendations on integrating Turnul Sfatului into the life of the community and into the tourist circuit.
